UPDATE: The Legacy Chart

Billboard are finally able to premier a brand new chart feature; the Legacy Chart. Previously, your releases charted anywhere from one to five weeks on the Hot Singles Chart or the Top Albums Chart. Well, from next Saturday, that changes... almost. Your current releases will still chart as normal. However, in honor of #PopIndustry's 5th anniversary, former releases will be given a second chance; one that builds a legacy.

Here's how it works: The Legacy Chart is - at its core - the same as any weekly chart, and will be compiled in the same way as the current weekly charts. However, there are a few major changes. The most glaring of which is that this chart is only for legacy releases; those that were released five years ago. This year will be the very first legacy chart and only Season 1 releases will be eligible. Currently, the schedule is as follows:

Season 1 - 2018 Season 2 - 2019 Season 3 (inc. 3x) - 2019 Season 4 - 2020 Season 5 - 2021 Season 6 - 2022 Season 7 - 2023

Other changes include the removal of depreciation for older releases - however, newer releases will be depreciated by 10% per release on the Streaming minor charts only. Another change affecting streaming is that streams from the whole year will count towards this chart, not just the current week. The Digital and Radio minor charts will work as before; with the legacy releases being included on the iTunes Store and Radio Playlists once again.

NOTE: All former charting releases will be added for inclusion. Non-charting releases such as "buzz", "promotional" or "missed" items will not be included.

Finally, there are two very important points to note: The first is while there will be an official "Legacy Chart", your position on this chart will NOT affect your chart-peak; only your points will be affected. Secondly, the Legacy Charts will only be active for ONE week per full season. That means there's a maximum of 100 points up for grabs for legacy releases.

We look forward to seeing the first Legacy Charts in action at the end of next week. Get ready for a throwback fiasco; whether you're watching 'Through the Looking Glass' or having a 'Love Attack' at the prospect, we're perched either way. Now, you can 'Fuck Off (But Text Me Later)'. See you next week!
